They say you can get on to different levels with Arte. If you tip and buy enough Arte will tell you when rare items are going to appear, I just can't get it to work no matter how much I tip. But anyway there are three main rare item themes, Egyptian, Medieval, and Mad Scientist. The Egyptian theme is the most expensive and rare then the Medieval and then the Mad Scientist. Also there is 4 different vehicles the golf cart, the hot air balloon, the hummer, and the roadster. And also there is some random items that are not themed. Sometimes you can find the best rare items at weird times like 3:00am. As for gem hunting to avoid duplicates I kept a journal for all of the gems that I needed. A lot of times the color groups (white, red, blue, green, yellow) will correspond to the color of the rocks in the different mines. ex: the white gems are usually found in the Buried Bones Mine.
